Technical Program

The program on Renewable Energies takes place in Pamplona and is given through English by experts from the respective fields on which the contents are based. They have adequate university training as well as experience in companies that work in the areas mentioned.

This program lasts for 4 weeks and has 80 hours of lectures over four days a week with 1 day a week allowed for plant visits. This gives the students the opportunity to see in practice what they talk about in class.

The course is organized by Educational Services Pamplona and the Engineering Association of Navarre, Spain. This specialized program on renewable energy will provide students with advanced knowledge of this sector.

Course of study: the course content is appropriate for students in chemical, civil, electrical, material and mechanical engineering and the syllabus has been designed to be compatible with US accreditation criteria. Students may choose from two learning opportunities: option A: a two week general Spanish course followed by a four week program on renewable energies. Option B: only the four week renewable energies program. Both options include on-site visits to renewable energy generation sites. The program will take place in Pamplona, Navarre, Spain. The program takes place in June and July.*

Goals and objectives: the main goal is to provide students with the skills they need for their professional careers in the energy sector with a focus on renewable energy sources.

  • To understand the framework and current status of the renewable energy sector both in Spain and in Europe.
  • To analyze the different renewable technologies in order to implement them in different cultural and industrial settings.
  • To understand and evaluate the technical viability of new projects and the environmental effect of renewable energy projects.
  • To gain a working knowledge of renewable energy facilities and their components: wind turbines, solar collectors, photovoltaic panels, biomass energy production technologies, hydraulic generators and turbines and geothermic installations.

The program also includes the following cultural activities:

1: Guided tour of Pamplona.
2: Visit to a winery and medieval castle.
3: Visit to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
4: Visit to the South of France taking in places like Hendaye and Biarritz.

Apartment

Shared apartments are generally occupied by Spanish people who offer an available room to foreign students. The offer consists of single room self-catering. This means that the student has access to the kitchen but must buy and prepare his/her own food.

Family

Family stay offers double room accommodation with half board: breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday and Full Board (Breakfast, lunch and dinner ) at weekends.

Accommodation is from Sunday before the course start date till Saturday after course finish date.

Course of Spanish language and Culture before the start of the Program on Renewable Energies.. This course consists of a two week immersion program in General Spanish. You will have 20 lessons of General Spanish per week for 2 weeks in groups of 10/12 students maximum. In this way you will not only improve your knowledge of Spanish but also your knowledge of Spain, its culture and history. The dates for this program are from 6th till 17th June 2016

Option A

The course price includes:

  • 100 hours of training in areas related to Renewable Energies: 80 of which will take place in the classroom and the other 20 in site visits.
  • 40 hours of general Spanish
  • Transport to and from the site visits.
  • 2 Full day excursions: One to Bilbao to visit the Guggenheim Museum and the other to the South of France visiting places like Hendaye and Biarritz.
  • A visit to a winery and a wine tasting session.
  • A visit to the medieval Caste at Olite.
  • A farewell dinner.
  • Accommodation as indicated above for the students
  • Accommodation for the professor in a single room, self-catering apartment

Option B

The course price includes:

  • 100 hours of training in areas related to Renewable Energies: ( 80 of which will take place in the classroom and the other 20 in site visits)
  • Transport to and from the site visits.

ESPA

ESPA together with the Engineering Association of Navarre is responsible for the organization and running of the Renewable Energies program in Pamplona. This program is aimed at University students who are interested in aspects related to Renewable Energies.

Here in Navarre this has been a central part of policy for the last 25 years and proof of it is the use of renewable energies, the recovery of rivers and forests and the careful use of energy. These have been part of public policy for many years and now Navarre is reaping the benefits of this policy.

Pamplona

Pamplona is a medium sized city in the North of Spain not far from the French border. It has a population of around 195000 inhabitants and is famous for its world renowned San Fermin Festival where the bulls run through the streets.

This festival was made famous by the Nobel Prize winning American Author Ernest Hemingway in his book “The Sun Also Rises”. The festival brings around a million people to the city during its eight days duration.

Pamplona is the capital of the Autonomous Region of Navarra, one of the regions that make up present day Spain. It was a powerful Kingdom in the middle ages stretching way into France.

Nowadays it is one of the economic motors of the Spanish economy with a special focus on Renewable Energies, Bio-Medicine, the Car Industry and the Agro-Industry sector.
